A 5-minute guide · No jargon
How a website works, explained simply
Domain, hosting, Google, keywords: the terms that come up when you shop for a website and that feel too basic to ask about. In 5 minutes you’ll get all of them, so nobody can pull a fast one on you. No tech talk. Promise.
Your website is 4 things, and you already know all 4 from running a business in the real world: an address, the rent, a storefront and the Yellow Pages. Let’s take them one at a time.
The domain is your shop’s address
A domain is the name people type to get to your website: yourbakery.com. It’s like 1250 Main Street, the address where people find you. That’s all it is.
The part that really matters: the registered owner of your .com domain (the name on file for that web address) is you, not us, the same way your business license is in your name, not your accountant’s. If you ever switch providers, the address goes with you.
The renewal is part of your monthly plan: no surprise “domain renewal” bill ever shows up.

Hosting is the rent: where your website lives
Your website has to “live” on a computer that never shuts off, so anyone can see it at any hour. That computer is rented, and that rent is your hosting.
Yours lives on Hostinger. We pay for and manage that rent as part of your monthly plan, so you never have to renew or set up a thing.
SSL: the lock on the door. The little padlock you see in your browser means everything traveling between your customer and your site is encrypted. Included.
Backups: a copy of the keys and the inventory. A daily Hostinger backup + a separate monthly copy we keep ourselves, just in case.
Open every day, no closing time. Even at 3 in the morning, when somebody gets a craving for cake.
The website is your shop: window, salesperson and register
With the address and the rent handled, you still need the shop. That’s the website, and it does three jobs at once, open 24/7:
- The display window: your products with photos and prices right out front. Nobody has to “DM for price.”
- The salesperson: answers at any hour, never calls in sick and never forgets a price or your hours.
- The register: customers put their order together on your site and it lands on your phone, ready to go, by text or email. You get paid the way you always have.
Keep in mind: the site brings in the inquiry, but when your phone buzzes, you’re the one who answers. The close is still yours. It’s your best salesperson, not your replacement.
This is what we build in 7 days, with the date in writing.
Google: the Yellow Pages that sort themselves
You used to show up in the Yellow Pages in alphabetical order, and you paid for it. On Google, the order gets decided all over again with every search: the business that best answers what the person asked wins.
To decide that order, Google does 3 things: it crawls the world’s websites like a city inspector going door to door, writing down what each shop sells (if your site doesn’t exist, you don’t exist to Google); it files everything it wrote down in a giant filing cabinet; and it ranks based on who says it most clearly, who loads fastest, who looks good on a phone and who gets recommended by others. Earning a good spot in that order is what people call SEO: you can’t buy it, only earn it.
The first results marked “Sponsored” are paid ads: that’s advertising, a different animal, and you pay for every click. Everything in this guide is the part you don’t pay for.
“Keywords”: the exact phrase your customer types
At 11 at night, a pipe bursts in an apartment in Brandon. Nobody types “comprehensive residential plumbing and drainage services.” What they type, wet phone in hand, is “emergency plumber brandon”: all lowercase, just like that. That 3-word phrase is the keyword: urgency + service + area.
Google doesn’t read minds: it compares the phrase someone searched with what’s written on each website. The plumber whose site says “Emergency plumber in Brandon: we’re there in under an hour” matches word for word and gets into the fight for the top spots. The one who went with “Integrated Hydro Services Group LLC: excellence in sanitary engineering” doesn’t match anything a human being types at 11 at night: for that search, it doesn’t exist.
It’s like the sign on your shop: if it says PLUMBER in big letters, anyone looking for one stops. Google reads signs. It doesn’t guess what’s inside.
| What people type | What your site should say |
|---|---|
| emergency plumber brandon | Emergency plumber in Brandon, available now |
| unclog toilet cost tampa | Toilet unclogging in Tampa: upfront prices |
| birthday cake clearwater same day delivery | Birthday cakes in Clearwater with same-day delivery |
See the pattern? Your site wins when it talks the way your customer talks, not the way the owner talks.
So where do your keywords come from? From you: the messages customers already send you (“do you make cakes for 40 people?”, “are you open Sundays?”) are literally what they search on Google. We ask you for them on day 1 and write them into your site, each one in the section where it belongs.
Fair warning: having the phrase on your site gets you into the race; it doesn’t hand you first place. If there are 40 plumbers in Brandon with good websites, you’re up against all 40, and that’s where reviews, speed and time count. One thing’s for sure: without the phrase, you’re not even in the race.

This isn’t bad luck: Google can only show what’s written down somewhere. If you don’t have a website, someone else does the writing for you: the competition, a directory, or a borrowed profile with your old phone number.

Directions- 1The blue line comes from a tag in the code called the title. We write it, using the words your customers search for.
- 2The green address is your own domain, not a profile borrowed from some other platform.
- 3The description comes from the meta description: two lines we write to make people want to click.
- 4The stars aren’t drawn in: they show up when your real customers review you on Google. We clear the path; you earn the reviews.
- 5The panel on the side comes from your Google Business Profile, which we connect to your website.

Honesty first
What we WON’T promise you (and why that’s good for you)
Ranking first on Google overnight isn’t a thing: it takes months, and anyone who guarantees it is lying to you. Here are 4 promises you’ll hear out there and won’t hear from us:
“We guarantee you the #1 spot on Google.”
No one who’s serious can: Google decides the order, it changes every day, and it also depends on your competition. Anyone who “guarantees” it is either lying to you or buying you paid ads and billing you like it’s magic.
“You’ll show up right away.”
The truth, with timelines: getting found by your name takes days, and we do get that rolling for you. Competing on general searches like “bakery tampa” takes months. It’s a marathon with a good sign out front, not a sprint.
“Thousands of visitors.”
More people isn’t the goal; the RIGHT people are. Thirty people who searched “wedding cake tampa” are worth more than three thousand window-shoppers who wandered by.
“It works on autopilot.”
It’s your best salesperson: open 24 hours, never forgets a price. But when your phone buzzes, you’re the one who answers. The site brings in the inquiry; the close is yours.
What your site does get from day one: basic Google optimization, a connected Google Business Profile and the QR code for your counter or window, so people who search your business by name can find something solid.
We explain how this works precisely so nobody (not even us) can sell you smoke and mirrors. A customer who understands what they’re buying complains less and recommends more. That’s why this page exists.
The 4 questions still on your mind
01Is the domain in my name?
Yes. Your .com domain is registered in your name, not ours, the same way your business license is in your name, not your accountant’s. The renewal is part of the monthly plan, so no surprise bills show up. And if you ever leave, the domain goes with you.
02What happens if I want to switch providers?
You can. Nothing is locked in: the website, the code and the domain are yours. We hand everything over and walk you through the move, no drama and no penalties. The one thing to know: hosting and a domain have to be paid for somewhere either way, with us or on your own. The monthly plan doesn’t lock you in; it just takes that chore off your plate.
03How long does it take to show up on Google?
It depends on the search. Getting found by your business name takes days, and we set that in motion from day one with basic Google optimization and a connected Google Business Profile. Competing on general searches like “bakery tampa” takes months, because you’re up against everyone in your line of work. And anyone who guarantees you first place overnight is lying.
04What’s SSL, or the padlock?
The SSL certificate is the padlock you see in the browser’s address bar: it makes sure everything traveling between your customer and your site is encrypted and nobody tampers with it along the way. Without the padlock, the browser labels the site “Not secure” and people leave. Yours is included in the monthly plan at no extra cost.
